Vic: Health workers walk off the job at Western Hospital

About 200 orderlies, cleaners and other staff at the Western Hospital have walked off
the job, protesting over poor conditions in Victorian hospitals.

The members of the Health Services Union of Australia began a stop-work meeting at
midday, after serving management with a claim for a new pay and conditions deal.

The action is expected to bring meal delivery, cleaning, rubbish removal, admissions,
discharges and clerical work to a standstill.

Union assistant secretary JEFF JACKSON says the the hospital system was run down by
the KENNETT government, and it's time for the BRACKS government to fix it.
