QLD: Pollies face untold pressures says long serving member

Queensland's longest serving state MP says politicians face untold pressures of which the
public is generally unaware.

TONY ELLIOTT, the National Party member for Cunningham since 1974 was speaking after he
learned former One Nation MP CHARLES RAPPOLT had been found hanging in a garage at his home
near Auckland, in New Zealand.

One Nation says Mr RAPPOLT had gone to New Zealand to escape pressures which had built up
after he stepped down from his northern Queensland seat of Mulgrave last November.

Mr ELLIOTT says he was saddened to learn of Mr RAPPOLT'S death, which he says highlights
the pressures all politicians faced.

He says he makes himself available 24 hours a day for his constituents and has even
received phone calls at 3am from people needing assistance.

Mr ELLIOTT says he's happy to oblige, but a politician mustn't let those problems interfere
with family life.
